Saints! Whether we are reflecting on the lives of the canonized saints, or some of the people that we considered saintly among our own family and friends, we are both challenged and inspired to dedicate our lives to holiness, to becoming the people God intended us to be.
All Saints Day is this coming week, Friday, November 1. This is a time to read up on the lives of the saints and share their stories with others. They are heroic to say the least. When we attend mass on this Holy Day of Obligation, we celebrate the Communion of Saints in heaven, and are thankful that they paved the way of faith by laying down their lives in service of Jesus Christ, some of them even to the point of death, martyrdom.
They are champions for God and they still intercede for us every day of our lives by offering up our prayers to God and interceding for our every need. May this All Saints Day find us motivated to learn more about their lives through reading and research, and in turn celebrate their attitudes of humility and faith which has the potential to move us forward in holiness.
Who is our favorite Saint? What is it about their life’s story that connects us with our own story, and how are we challenged by their example of faith?
God is calling us all to be holy, to become a Saint, and most of us feel like we have a long way to go! Even though we are all sinners, God takes us by the hand and fashions us to become more and more like Him each and every day of our lives. By surrendering to His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, we allow ourselves to be transformed into becoming more and more like Jesus Christ as we humbly proceed where we are planted on our life’s journey. May we persevere to the end in holiness through grace entering heaven as a Saint.
