In marriage, God invites a man and woman to love like He loves. They commit themselves to one another and create a union that is permanent, faithful, and open to children. As Catholics, we believe the sacrament of Marriage is a direct reflection on God's love for His church. It is a sacrificial union that requires both man and woman to give themselves fully to the other.

According to Canon Law, a Catholic marriage must meet the following requirements:

• At least one of the spouses is baptized Catholic
• The wedding must be celebrated in a Catholic church in the presence of a Catholic priest/deacon/bishop and in teh presence of two other witnesses
• The two spouses must be free to be married (e.g. no prior valid marriages or any other vow that would impede the spouse from fulfilling their commitment)
• They must be psychologically mature and capable of consenting to the marriage; and they must understand the nature of a Catholic marriage (exclusive, permanent, and open to having children)

There are several documents you will need to provide the priest and the church office in order for the church to perform your mass.

1. A certificate of Baptism - if you are a member of NWV, we already have your baptism on file. If you are not a member, you will need to make sure your baptism certificate is sent over to our parish office.

True, sacraficial love takes work, it is not just a feeling. It is easy for our love to go on autopilot as the years go by and we evolve as humans. Marriage relationships require nurturing from God, ensuring He is at the center of your marriage.

Natural Family Planning (NFP) methods rely on the naturally occuring signs of a woman's fertile and infertile windows during her menstrual cycle. NFP “reflects the dignity of the human person within the context of marriage and family life, promotes openness to life, and recognizes the value of the child. By respecting the love-giving and life-giving natures of marriage, NFP can enrich the bond between husband and wife” (USCCB, Standards for Diocesan Natural Family Planning Ministry, p.23).
